Job Description

The Director, Medical Affairs, Endocrinology/Oncology will oversee all medical affairs activities of the Endocrine/Oncology therapeutic area. The Director is responsible for the medical strategies, the input into medical information responses, the scientific communications including poster presentations and publications (in conjunction with the Global Publication team), the design and medical monitoring of US-based clinical studies, and the approval of educational grants.

The Director works with the MSL team in developing and managing regional relationships with key opinion leaders (KOLs), working with KOLs on externally-sponsored study requests, providing internal (& relevant external) training, and preparing/supervising responses to Medical Information requests so that customers will be informed about the Endocrinology products and therapeutic areas in which Ipsen markets.

Key internal partners include the Medical Affairs and clinical operations group running the Endocrinology/Oncology studies, the Endocrinology/Oncology commercial team, and global Endocrinology/Oncology franchise medical personnel.

Essential duties & responsibilities:

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams within Ipsen to provide medical/scientific expertise and marketplace feedback

•Drive the scientific publication plan in US and design and run clinical studies in conjunction with Medical Affairs Operations group
•Ensure appropriate scientific, disease and Ipsen product training for MSL team and other internal partners
•Develop and supervise the execution of the Endocrinology/Oncology KOL identification process
• Through the Medical Affairs Information Dept and MSL team, create & disseminate medically sound information to support the safe & effective use of Ipsen Endocrinology/Oncology products (adhering to Regulatory and Ipsen guidelines)

• Offer medical input and manage budgets for clinical grants and medical education support activities (through Grants manager)

• Manage Travel and Expense budget in keeping with Ipsen guidelines

Education, Experience & Training Required

•MD, PhD, or PharmD with experience in Endocrinology/Oncology preferably in pituitary disorders such as acromegaly preferred
•Board eligible or certified Endocrinologist/Oncologyist strongly preferred
•Minimum 3-5 years in pharmaceutical industry, with most in Medical Affairs, but some clinical trials/research experience a plus
•Experience in presenting and publishing scientific information a plus
•Rudimentary knowledge of clinical trial design, biostatistics

Communication & Interpersonal Skills


•Experience in preparation of materials for use by Medical Affairs and experience in review/editing promotional materials
•Skill level with relevant PC and software programs including Microsoft Word and Power Point
•Ability to communicate scientific and clinical information clearly and credibly


•Poised, knowledgeable verbal scientific presenter with experience in presentations within the pharmaceutical industry and in external venues such as medical congresses
•Able to communicate clearly and crisply in scientific and clinical venues

•Ability to interact easily with all levels within the organization; tactful; mature; flexible

Essential Functions:

-PC literacy required; MSOffice skills (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

-Regularly required to operate standard office equipment (personal computer, photocopy machine, fax machine, etc.)

-Ability to work on a computer up to 7 hours a day

-Regularly required to sit for long periods of time, and occasionally stand and walk

-Regularly required to use hands to operate computer and other office equipment

-Close vision required for computer usage
