Job Description

The Senior Director Business Analytics is responsible for the internal and external leadership of Ipsen’s Market Research, Forecasting and Competitive Intelligence functions including procurement and sourcing of MR syndicated audits, reports and models as well as the proper interpretation, synthesis, utilization and support of decision making utilizing insights from these initiatives.

The Sr. Director interacts directly with the heads of the US Business Units, the Canadian equivalents and supports the brand planning process and the Long-Range Planning process from Corporate. Acts as key internal consultant to the commercial teams for developing brand strategy. This role also interacts with the Financial Planning and Analysis function and with the Global Market research function located at Corporate.

This role requires in-depth experience with a variety of measurement and research methods, forecasting techniques, reporting and analytic platforms, strategic planning, project management, data sourcing and evaluation, financial analysis, market research and customer insight generation and includes management responsibility. A critical component of this job is to develop a comprehensive analytic and fact-based reporting offering that influences decision making to drive greater revenue and value for the Business Units in accordance with legal and compliance guidelines.

Essential Functions

Business Analytics/ Market Research & Competitive Intelligence
• Identify analytical needs and develop an annual budget and operational plan to meet these needs to support the management of the business units
• Define and manage scope of work and budget for analytics partners as it relates to brand needs
• Lead the overall annual strategic planning, long term, and short-term forecasting process
• Develop and implement the process and plan for all franchise data needs—sourcing, warehousing, analyzing, and reporting.
• Develop and lead the execution of all primary and secondary market research data plans for routine business, key projects, customer insight generation, informing marketing strategy and branding/promotional efforts
• Provide full analytical support to the marketing team
• Provide full oversight on the development and implementation of resource allocation, ROI analytics and analysis of the impact of all marketing expenditures, tactics and field force execution
• Define and manage competitive intelligence strategy
• Provide project management for key brand projects and initiatives (e.g. Brand dashboards, resource allocation, regularly measure key performance indicators for all key tactics, etc.)
• Provide strategic inputs to Business Unit Leadership Team by providing information and intelligence to drive critical business decisions
• Assess effectiveness of all Ipsen commercial activities and competitive activity and proactively provide recommendations for addressing issues and capitalizing on opportunities in light of market dynamics and consistent with regulatory, legal, and compliance guidelines

Forecasting, Reporting, Performance Tracking
• Build patient based and Rx based forecasts for new product opportunities
• Provide input to short and long-term scenario planning for production and commercial forecast for in line products
• Market Research (Primary and Secondary for inline, new products – early stage and late stage, Business Development)
• Lead the development and implementation of the pre- and post-launch market research plan, including both qualitative and quantitative consumer, professional, payer, and pharmacy primary research studies
• Develop market research plans to address business questions and provide the marketing team with vital insights and analyses
• Track the markets and individual product performance using secondary audit services
• Competitive Intelligence (for inline, new products – early stage and late stage)
• Marketing Analytics (for inline, new products – early stage and late stage)
• Provide analytical support to Head of Sales and Director, Sales Operations for targeting, alignment, call plans, IC and forecasting
• Participate in brand strategy meetings; stayed informed on brand developments, competitive intelligence and US strategic and tactical activities
• Establish post-launch tracking metrics to benchmark performance

CORE COMPETENCIES/KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED

 Ability to provide oversight to the full spectrum of pharmaceutical analytical functions and the ability to conduct the business analytics with emphasis in oncology
 Management responsibility of broad operational plans and budgets, with and without direct authority.
 Strategic planning, critical thinking and analytics, decision making
 Innovative and creative thinking to solve problems and conduct scenario planning
 Strong team leadership skills and the ability to motivate others.
 Project management expertise with an ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects on tight timelines
 Financial acumen, including resource allocation, budget management and reporting, strategic sourcing, P&L evaluation
 Excellent communication skills and ability to influence the organization

EDUCATION AND PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

 Bachelor’s Degree in math, sciences, finance or economics. Graduate degree in management, business, analytics, finance or economics.
 15+ years biopharma commercial and analytical experience, with 5 years’ experience in supervisory roles
 Significant experience in specialty pharmaceutical markets with complex science and reimbursement.
 Oncology product experience
 Business analytics and forecasting experience in injectable and buy-and bill markets
 Experience in payer and reimbursement analytics, including experience with claims databases
 Ability to effectively perform all functions in adherence with legal, compliance and regulatory guidelines in the pharmaceutical and biologics
 Ability to travel as needed both domestically and internationally based on business needs

 Ability to effectively translate and synthesize analytics into key business objectives and findings to drive decision making

 Track record of successful vendor management including challenging ideas to ensure alignment with strategy, while ensuring on-time and on budget delivery with the highest quality possible
 Keen learning ability and a strength at proactively developing and directing initiatives to deliver meaningful insights
