Job Description:

The Head, Global Market Access is responsible for the development and execution of global pricing and market access strategies that align with brand and corporate strategies and ensuring these strategies are implemented globally. This includes leading the pricing definition, health technology assessments, implementation and monitoring processes for current and future products and relevant marketplace benchmarks. This role advices the commercial leadership team on pricing corridor, referencing and launch sequencing. The role is also responsible for short and long-term value proposition including health economics and outcomes planning and modeling.

He/she manages direct reports.

The incumbent works cross-functionally with internal departments and external resources on Market Access related issues.

The Head, Global Market Access is accountable for adherence to relevant regulatory requirements and company Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as appropriate.

Primary duties/responsibilities:

•Defines, builds, manages, and develops the Market Access organization in alignment with the global commercial strategy.
•Designs and executes program for Market Access Excellence to increase market access capabilities in PTC affiliate organizations and health economics and outcomes research (HEOR); leads and supports the design of market access training programs.
•Directs regional affiliates in adapting health economic data and model needs for new product launches; directs the identification of health technology assessment, pricing and reimbursement requirements at global, regional and local levels; strategically guides and provides expert input into the preparation and submission of health technology assessment dossiers.
•Directs periodic health outcomes and health economic needs assessments with affiliates and channel information to global health outcomes and health economic and outcomes research and other functions within global market access.
•Develops regional strategies for global health outcomes and HEOR in launching and implementing payer tools and economic models such as budget impact models, value dossiers and slide libraries.
•Evaluates and makes recommendations regarding affiliate needs for market access capacity.
•Leads global and regional advisory boards to gain input on regional health economic data needs.
•Establishes, manages and maintains successful relations with relevant health authorities, key opinion leaders (KOLs), government agencies and officials and patient and industry associations; point of contact for KOLs, government and payors; tests and refines reimbursement strategies with KOLs.
•Manages the department budget in alignment with corporate financial guidance.
•Manages, coaches and mentors direct reports.
•Performs other tasks and assignments as needed and specified by management.


Minimum level of education and years of relevant work experience.
•Bachelor’s degree in a related business or scientific discipline and a minimum of 12 years progressively responsible experience in market access and/or health economics and outcomes positions in a pharmaceutical, biotechnology or related environment at least 7 of which were spent in global commercial organizations.
•Strong understanding of orphan drug pricing and global payer processes
•In-depth knowledge of and hands-on experience in health outcomes, health economics and pricing
•Demonstrated ability to lead the global pricing implementation for orphan/specialty indications
•Experience contributing to late stage product development and the global commercialization of new products
•Expert knowledge of major health care systems and pricing and reimbursement requirements
•Demonstrated understanding of the dynamics of International health care systems and financing mechanisms
•Demonstrated ability to collaboratively in a fast-paced, matrixed, team environment consisting of internal and external team members.
•Demonstrated experience working and supervising external vendors
•Experience in pharmaceutical product development, pricing and/or commercialization (may be concurrent with technical health outcomes and economics strategy experience).
•Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
•Excellent verbal and written communication and skills.
•Analytical thinker with excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines.
•Excellent planning, organization and time management skills including the ability to support and prioritize multiple projects.
•Experience managing direct reports.
•Advanced degree (PhD, Master’s, MBA).
•Fluency in a second language
•Prior experience working abroad in a major international market
•Experience supporting the global commercialization of an orphan, rare disease and/or specialized drug(s).
•Experience working in a small but fast growing, entrepreneurial environment.

* Travel requirements
This role requires extensive domestic and international travel equal to approximately 40% of the incumbent’s time.
